Head of the Department of Medical Education University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Medicine
The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago seeks a Head to lead one of the premier departments of medical education, social sciences, and humanities in the world. The Department has 15 faculty members, approximately 25 staff members, and numerous faculty holding joint or adjunct appointments. It offers a master's program in medical education, a medical education certificate program, visiting fellowship programs, distance learning programs, and humanities instruction in undergraduate medical education, among other teaching activities. The Department offers faculty development programs to enhance teaching and evaluation as well as consultation services regarding measurement of student performance, educational outcomes, and compliance with accreditation standards. The Department is also a leader in international educational collaborations in many of these areas as well. The Department's research covers the breadth of medical education and has been supported by leading agencies and funding sources. The Department also administers the Allan L. and Mary L. Graham clinical performance center, the Hispanic Center of Excellence, and College of Medicine testing services.
The College seeks a Head who will use a transparent and collaborative leadership style to frame the vision, mission and goals for the Department and who can engage the faculty in achieving the vision. Applicants should have the stature and communication skills necessary to represent the Department effectively to its college, university, national and international constituencies. Applicants should be recognized leaders in health professions education and have administrative experience in addition to experience designing innovative education programs and partnerships. Applicants should also have demonstrated excellence in teaching, a record of scholarship consistent with the Department's mission, and be able to contribute to the Department's multi-disciplinary scholarship. Applicants must have received the degree of MD/DO and/or PhD.
