Position Description: Educational Researchers (2 positions)

Background
The Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine is developing an Education Discovery Institute (EDI) to enhance our national reputation in medical education research and support the ultimate goal to improve patient care through educational translational study. The EDI will focus on collaborative educational scholarship, spanning from undergraduate to continuing medical education.

The EDI is co-led by one MD and one PhD educator supported by core research resources. Our three targeted programmatic areas of study are: Communications, Educational Technology, and Community-based Education. We seek applications for a senior level person who can advance our educational discovery mission through innovation and creativity as well as the application of scientific principles to education. Although the position will be open in terms of area of expertise, preference will be given to those with research experience in at least one of the above 3 programmatic concentrations.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in education, psychology or related field
  • Three-five years experience in medical/health professions education
  • Experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research design and methods
  • Experience in educational research project management
  • Knowledge of one or more statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS or SAS)
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills
  • Grant writing experience

Preferences

  • Familiarity with psychometric and measurement principles desired
  • Evidence of substantial responsibility in educational research or program evaluation preferred
  • Evidence of expertise in at least one programmatic area of study including Communications, Educational Technology and Community-based education

Responsibilities

  • Develop a strategic roadmap for their programmatic area of expertise
  • Work with the larger EDI Team to advance MCG's national reputation in educational discovery in all programmatic areas via national publication and presentation
  • Facilitate discovery by providing measurement and design expertise
  • Collaboratively develop a model for "educational consultation" within the school of medicine
  • Work with faculty and students to support their educational research needs including faculty development programs that evolve from the EDI
  • Incorporate current knowledge into curricular programs with an evaluative component
  • Develop an independent stream of funded research relevant to personal interests and complementary to EDI programs
  • Develop collaborative relationships with other schools within MCG and externally in the Southeast region and nationally
