This position is responsible for providing leadership in, and support for, program development and the institution of assessment methods for all UME (Undergraduate Medical Education) pre-clinical and clinical programs. This entails the design of instruments, systems, and feedback reporting procedures in the service of continuous improvement our curriculum, faculty and student performance. More focused work will involve developing and conducting workshops on effective teaching methods, evaluation strategies and statistical support for projects which will result in publications. The applicant will also support - and take the lead in - grant applications that support the educational mission of the UGME program.
Examples of Work Performed - Provide leadership for the direction, goals, and implementation of the Office of Evaluation - Develop and oversee: 1) faculty development in teaching and research; 2) medical student, faculty and program evaluation systems; - Collaborate and partner with SOM leadership to optimize the medical school learning environment. - Work with administration and faculty across the medical center to develop a community of education specialists, and to contribute to a shared understanding of best practices in medical education. - Oversee and provide faculty development to develop leaders in medical education - Conduct, present, and publish research in medical education - Identify resources, write and submit grants to develop and extend academic support services - Provide guidance to the Curriculum Steering Committee and its subcommittees Desired qualifications Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Ability to supervise professionals responsible for the educational service components. - Experience in project and human resource management - Facility conducting analyses in one or more statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, SAS) - Knowledge of and experience providing support data to meet the Liaison Committee on Medical Education accreditation standards - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Expertise in one of the following areas of specialization: faculty development, educational psychology, educational research and statistics, instructional technology, program development; or assessment using simulation. Minimum Requirements - A PhD or equivalent in education or psychology, OR an MD with additional training in educational research, evaluation, or adult learning.
- Five years advanced experience in medical education.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, administrators, and students.
- Documented publication record in medical education
- Accomplishments in teaching, research and service to qualify for associate professorship in one of the departments in the School of Medicine
