· K. Mann: Dalhousie. An M.Ed. Program has been developed in cooperation with a local university. The second cohort begins in September. A faculty-wide needs assessment this year has identified faculty development needs. Accreditation in May 2002.

L. Sandlow: UIC. An LCME accreditation occurred this year, and
resulted in an 8-year accreditation. A review last year resulted in more
resources, so there is a new Dean for Curriculum in
· R. Galbraith: NBME. Innovations in medical education assessment. A package of changes for the subject test exams. The Simulated Patient examination has met with some opposition, from students, the AMA and AAMC, mainly related to the examination cost.
· A. Blue: MUSC. Have experienced some budget changes, which have led to office changes. They hosted SGEA this year, as well as SACME. An accreditation is up coming.

B. Richards: UT
· E. Petrusa: Duke. A new Dean, and a new Dean for curriculum. There is an expectation that there will be funding for a new approach to clinical education among some other sweeping changes. Bioterrorism education initiatives are also underway.
· M. Hitchcock: USC. One year into the new case-based curriculum. It has provided a chance for the office to “make a difference” but the challenges to curriculum change include finding a balance between assisting faculty and providing service.
· R. Woodhouse: Queen’s. Working to develop a respect for education, and to build connections across disciplines and the continuum. Working to find research opportunities in the New Economy government funded initiatives. Hosted a multidisciplinary conference leading to research ideas around judgment, and teams, and professional learning in the workplace. Projects include understanding how the teaching dossier works.

· S. Cook: Pritzker. A new Associate Dean for Medical Education. An initiative across the continuum. A new Dean starting on July 1st. The medical school has to make a case for its importance, as it is not separate from the other health sciences.

· M. Ravitch: North Western. Jay Thomas is not here. There is a third and fourth year initiative in the MD curriculum. An initiative in decision-making. Mike himself is learning to sing to improve voice, and taking physical therapy, playing golf, and participating in a book club.

R Ber: Ber Sheva. Since last November, the school has been endowed
in medical education, and there will be an annual lectureship. Very active in
OSCEs, and all 4 medical schools in

2.0 Historian Report
Mike described the Exemplars Project. The investigators were Maurice Hitchcock, Carole Bland, Ilene Harris, Bill Anderson, LuAnn Wilkerson and Deb Simpson. The subjects were Stephen Abrahamson, Hilliard Jason, Charles Dohner, Arthur Elstein, Christine McGuire, and Frank Stritter. Mike described the project and the reasons that people were selected.

The call went out in June, and the deadline is early September.Updates were given from the authors of the three reviews currently in progress: Mark Albanese, Karen Szauter, and Joe York.
The report was given by George Nowacek for S. Chauvin. Newly approved members: Carole Hodgson, and Ros Woodhouse. Six member applications are currently in progress and there should be further progress to report in November.

International Membership Committee
Elaine Dannefer has agreed to Chair this Committee. The Committee will be looking at the International Committee and membership, and considering what new initiatives and involvement might serve these members better.

Crossing
George Nowacek provided an introduction to the
developments on Web Crossing. George described the process of our switching over
to a computer conferencing system. sdrme@list.sdrme.org
is the new address. Inquiries may be sent to the list, and the information can
both go out on the listserve, as well as be put on the Web Crossing. There was
some concern about replies that will go back to everyone and create email
overload. D. Cook noted that the SDRME has been using Web Crossing for a few
years, and found it very useful.

Meeting in
The fall meeting will follow the usual format of the Sunday afternoon meeting of the executive, with a meeting and dinner in the evening. The date is November 10th.

David asked that we think of ways to encourage people to attend, and invited ideas for how this meeting might be helpful to members. David emphasized the importance of the meeting, and that he would like to promote attendance.
13.0 Summer Meeting Ideas for 2004
Members are invited to submit ideas for sites for 2004.The executive will welcome and consider any offers of hosting. The idea to keep a track of the Ottawa Conference dates was raised, to avoid conflicts such as this year.
14.0 Executive of the Society for 2002-2003
David explained that elections were not held as planned, but will be held prior to the fall meeting. The incoming president is George Nowacek, and Diane Heestand will be the president elect. K. Mann will remain as Secretary, and D. Cook will be past president.
